The following coping techniques have been known to be extremely helpful to survivors in therapy who are doing trauma work. Hopefully these techniques will be of equal value to you.

Technique for Flashbacks
Its very important to know your triggers, so that you can have more awareness, and better cope with any sort of flashback, be it visual, auditory, a reoccurant smell, or body memory. This page lists a basic technique for you to be able to accomplish this.

Grounding
Grounding is a very valuable technique to keep you from feeling helpless in the face of triggers. It takes time, but if you practice, and don't give up, it will be of tremendous help to you, once mastered.

Safe Place Technique
Mental imagery can be of great help in keeping yourself grounded. This common technique is specific, and can be a good one to share with your younger parts while also using it yourself.

Containment
Its common to run into triggers at times which are most "inconvenient", for lack of a better term - such as at work, at times spent with friends and/or family, or while you're driving, etc. This technique helps to put the issue aside in a safe way until you can better process it with your therapist, or in a more appropriate setting.

Portable Comforts
This page lists many, many ways to help keep you feeling safe in times of distress when you're away from home.

Using Affirmations
Affirmations are a great way of staying in a positive, peaceful state of mind, which helps to ward off unnecessary self criticism and distorted thinking. Theres thousands of affirmations out there to choose from, so take time to find what works best for you.

Caring for Your Inner Parts of Self/System
This page lists the basics for beginning to learn how to take care of your inner system. It takes time to develop a sense of love and trust, but its a must before you can begin to heal.
