SURVIVAL

This page covers the essential needs that must be met before any type of healing can begin, and includes difficult topics involved in one's overall personal safety.

When in Crisis
This page defines what a crisis is in detail and gives some resources on where you can go to begin to find help.

Sleep Deprivation
Without sleep a person cannot function. Period. Thousands of people are killed each year in car accidents caused by drivers that fall asleep at the wheel. So, in certain circumstances it can be fatal. Trauma work is exhausting within itself. If you add chronic insomnia into the mix it can make you seriously nonfunctional. Therefor if you are having a problem in this area take a look at this page. Its intended to aid you in getting back to sleeping well and thus staying healthy.

Suicidal Thoughts
Sometimes the healing process can be so painful and discouraging that you have times when you struggle with wanting to die. Its very common and nothing to be ashamed of. This page offers some sound advice. Remember that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, so please let someone know if your urges become overwhelming. Don't be afraid to tell your therapist, friend, or significant other. The most important thing always is to stay safe.

Recognizing Domestic Violence
Unfortunately as abuse survivors we are more likely to fall into abusive relationships, more so than those with more functional backgrounds. Healing cannot begin until you are in a safe environment. Safety, above all else, is the most important priority in healing. This page is designed to help in recognizing domestic violence and abusive relationships. If you're in an abusive relationship, or think you're in one that might be headed that way, get help immediately.

Eating Disorders
Eating is also essential to ones survival, and is top on the priority list in healing. Studies have shown that there is a high percentage of individuals who've developed eating disorders who also have had histories of trauma. These disorders are serious - they can be fatal if left untreated. This page provides further information.

Help Hotlines
This page lists hotlines for advise and support in various situations including for abuse issues, suicidal urges, and for children who've runaway from home. If there is a number not listed that you feel should be, please email the site webmaster and let her know.
